Exciting new classes – Beginning with Crochet

I have been busy making samples to show you guys new classes we are offering at Craft Atelier, beginning with Crochet. I have been doing crochet since I was in Primary school or even earlier. I have always created my own dolls’ clothes and accessories when I was playing with them. It is one craft I always find comfort in and one that is so mobile that I am usually carrying a ball of yarn with a project-in-progress with me. Other than sleeping on buses on long rides home, crochet is what accompanies me most of the time.

To start with, many of you may wonder how much can be achieved in a short 2 to 3 hours. Although it does take some time to master the art and craft of handling the crochet stitches, it can be relatively rewarding to complete your practice pieces into simple items that are not just decorative but also useful. I have recently taught 3 friends of mine who have never dreamt or wanted to crochet how to do it in a relatively short span of time. All 3 have complete numerous projects for themselves and their loved ones.

Let’s take a look at sample projects that you may choose to complete during your first crochet class.

The simplest projects would include phone pouches and coasters:

The class would not just equip you with skills to do simple stitches row after row or round after round. We aim to make sure you enjoy this craft even after the lesson, so you will also learn how to read instructions and interpret diagram patterns. With this skill, you can access patterns easily, even those written in Japanese as most of them come with comprehensive diagrams.

Try your hand at making something you can put to use at home. You can easily organise your drawers with crochet containers. How about a small bowl to hold your keys, loose change, accessories such as rings and bracelets?

If you already know the simple stitches and would like to progress more with your craft, then you might want to think about making useful items such as pouches, bags and even little knick knacks.

The photo above shows 2 cardholders that I designed about a year ago. The size can be adjusted to what items you would like to eventually place into the pouches. I made them to hold business cards. You can make one to hold the cards you commonly carry with you in your bag.

I got this pattern for the ditty bag from a lady online and it is the cutest little bag that many have bought from me since I started making them. They are the perfect size to hold a few small items for a quick trip out or for those lunches when you just need something to hold a phone and purse.

Nothing says you care more than creating something for a loved one or a friend. Wondering what to get a friend who just had a new addition to the family? How about a set of booties?

I love to use crochet flowers to accent my cards, bags and other accessories. You can try your hand at designing some items too. The next photo shows crochet flowers, small items that are decorative and made into keychains: mini bags, lip balm holder, USB thumb drive holder.

The crochet classes are not just open to those who are new to the craft. If you have been doing simple crochet for a while and would like to explore more, such as motif crochet, irish crochet etc, do join the class too. You may want to explore the area of lace crochet and complete a bag like the one in the photo below:

Come take up a new craft! Join us for the class on 26 Jun by yourself or with a friend. Remember that if you come with a friend, both of you will be eligible for a special discount! See you!
